St. Croix Activities
In addition to its fabulous beaches and varied water sports, St. Croix has a number of land activities to keep you busy, should you so desire.
Tour the Cruzan Rum Distillery in Frederiksted, where you will see exactly how sugar cane is converted to award-winning rum. Tours run Monday through Friday 9 AM-11:30 AM and 1:00 PM to 4:15 PM.
A horseback ride with Paul & Jill's (340-772-2880, www.PaulAndJills.com) is a great way to sightsee "off the beaten path." They'll take you through a tropical rain forest where you might eat fruit right from the trees, and you'll enjoy great views of the ocean from a breezy hilltop. Call for reservations.
St. Croix has several private tennis facilities, some lighted for night play. Try The Buccaneer (340-773-3036), Chenay Bay (340-773-2918), or The Reef, (340-773-8844).
Endurance Sports (340-719-1990, www.EnduranceSportsVI.com) is the leading bicycle shop on St. Croix, and offers a variety of bikes for rent. All bike rentals come with a helmet and a lock.
A visit to the St. George Village Botanical Gardens (340-692-2874, www.sgvbg.org) in Frederiksted will provide insight into the island's botanical, historical, and cultural heritage. Open daily 9 AM - 5 PM.
For an experience you're not likely to find elsewhere, catch a Soldier Crab Race. Fun for the whole family awaits as you pick your lucky crab and have a chance at some terrific prizes including gift certificates or even tickets on the seaplane to St. Thomas or San Juan! There are also "prizes" for all of the little ones. On Monday, you can find the races at the Marina Bar in King's Alley, and on Fridays they're upstairs at Stixx on the Waterfront. Both venues are right off the Christiansted boardwalk.
