St. John Airport Information

St. John does not have an airport, but its proximity to St. Thomas and the regular ferry schedule make the island relatively accessible nonetheless. Most visitors fly into St. Thomas airport (STT), and taxi to Charlotte Amalie or Red Hook, where ferries depart regularly for Cruz Bay in St. John.

You can view ferry schedules on http://www.vinow.com/general_usvi/interisland_ferry/. The St. John passenger ferry from Red Hook charges $5 one way, plus $3 per piece of luggage, and the trip is about 20 minutes. Due to increased security concerns, picture ID is now required for persons using ferries to travel to and from St. John. Please be prepared to show valid photo identification, and submit to random baggage screening when traveling to and from St. John. In addition, each piece of luggage must be tagged. Also, the ferry companies charge $5 per person one way and $3 per bag for luggage.

Another option is to rent a vehicle on St. Thomas, and take the 20-minute car barge from Red Hook to St. John. (Note that only a few car rental agencies such as Amalie and Budget will allow you to take their vehicles to St. John.)
