St. Martin Shopping
One of the great attractions of the island has been the duty-free shopping on both the French side and the Dutch side. The crowds from the cruise ships tend to be more attracted to the Dutch side, so the French side might provide a more leisurely shopping experience.
On Wednesday and Saturday mornings, visit the open-air market along the wharves on the Blvd. de France in Marigot. Sample a colorful array of homegrown produce, tropical spices, and fresh fish.
A newly-built shopping center at the foot of Fort St. Louis in Marigot is home to luxurious boutiques, and Marina Port la Royale at the southern end of town has elegant stores with European fashions and fine jewelry, all free of tax.
