Guests of Tortola villas shouldn't have any trouble keeping in touch with the outside world. Most Tortola villa rentals have phones with direct international dialing as well as cable or satellite televisions. Some villas have internet capabilities as well.
The phone system here is similar to the US, with a three-digit area code (284) plus seven digits. You may find that it's cheaper to dial internationally using a phone card; they're available at grocery stores and other stores throughout the island in $5, $10, and $20 denominations. If you choose to pay by credit card, dial 111 from any phone and follow the recorded instructions to complete your call.
If your villa doesn't have internet access and you want to catch up, try visiting an Internet café. They all have PC's, or you can use your own laptop.
